General Dentistry

We offer a wide range of professional and modern general dentistry treatments to help ensure every patient’s smile remains beautiful and healthy.

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry is the foundation of dental care that focuses on maintaining your overall oral health. At its core, it encompasses a wide range of services to ensure your teeth and gums stay in excellent condition. Regular check-ups and cleanings are a fundamental part of general dentistry, where a dentist will inspect your teeth and address any issues like cavities or gum disease.

They also provide essential preventive care, including fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect your teeth from future problems. Moreover, general dentists can diagnose and treat various dental concerns, offering solutions for toothaches, gum discomfort, and more. Think of general dentistry as the first line of defence against oral health issues, helping you maintain a healthy, confident smile for years to come.

General Dentistry Process

Initial Assessment

During your visit, you'll complete paperwork and provide your medical history.

Oral Examination

The dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and oral tissues for any issues or abnormalities.

Diagnostic Imaging (if needed)

In some cases, X-rays may be recommended to get a better view of your oral health.

Professional Cleaning

A dental hygienist will perform a thorough teeth cleaning, removing plaque and tartar build-up.

Diagnosis & Treatment Plan

Based on the examination and any X-ray findings, we will diagnose dental issues and discuss potential treatments.

Treatment and Follow-up (if necessary)

If treatment is required, we will perform necessary procedures, and we schedule any follow-up appointments for ongoing care.

Preventive dental care is the cornerstone of a healthy smile. At Diamond Smile, we emphasise the importance of regular check-ups and cleanings to keep your teeth and gums in top condition.

Our dental professionals perform thorough examinations, including X-rays when necessary, to detect any early signs of dental issues. We also offer professional teeth cleanings to remove plaque and tartar build-up, preventing cavities and gum disease.

Beyond the dental chair, we equip you with the knowledge and tools to maintain proper oral hygiene at home, ensuring your smile remains vibrant and trouble-free.

General Dentistry Services

Check-ups

Every patient should have a check-up every six months, or at least annually depending on individual circumstances.

We ensure our check-up is thorough so that we can lower the risk of any future problems, and minimise the need for treatments.

Crowns

Crowns are used to strengthen the tooth, as well as restoring its shape, size and aesthetics. They are placed on top of a prepared tooth that is usually too damaged or weak to be treated with a filling. They can also be used to anchor a dental bridge, as part of dental implant or root canal treatment, or to simply improve the look of a tooth.

Bridges

Bridges are held in place by crowns attached to the teeth sitting either side of a gap. They are an effective option for tooth replacement and can be used to replace a single tooth, or several missing teeth.

Fillings

A filling is used to fill a cavity that has been caused by tooth decay. The tooth will be prepared, before we fill the space with a special material which we shape and set to ensure it fits your bite and is comfortable. We offer standard amalgam (silver) fillings or a white filling if you want a more aesthetically pleasing look.

Senior Oral Health Care

As we age, our oral health needs can change, which is why Diamond Smile offers specialised care for seniors. Seniors’ oral health care focuses on maintaining healthy teeth and gums while addressing the unique challenges that can come with ageing.

Our experienced team is attentive to the dental concerns of seniors, such as gum disease and tooth sensitivity. We provide tailored treatment plans to address these issues and promote overall well-being.

Whether it’s dentures, implants, or routine check-ups, we offer comprehensive care to help seniors maintain their smiles and enjoy eating, speaking, and smiling comfortably.

Frequently Asked Questions

General dentistry encompasses the field of oral health maintenance, focusing on routine check-ups, cleanings, preventive care, and the treatment of common dental conditions.

It is generally advisable to plan regular check-ups and cleanings with a general dentist every six months. However, the frequency of your visits may vary if specific oral health concerns are identified by your dentist.

A standard dental check-up typically involves a comprehensive evaluation of your teeth and gums, with X-rays performed as needed, professional cleaning, and a discussion regarding any dental issues or potential treatment options.

Professional cleanings are essential as they effectively eliminate plaque and tartar accumulation that ordinary brushing and flossing may not fully address. This process plays a pivotal role in preventing cavities and gum disease.

X-rays serve a crucial role in general dentistry by providing a detailed perspective of your oral health. They enable dentists to identify conditions such as cavities, infections, and impacted teeth with precision.
